For Studio Poppy I'm really trying to move towards using only British grown blooms, especially during the British flowering season. There will be times out of season when a wedding or event will call for imported flowers but I will try and offset this by using as much British grown foliage for these jobs as possible.
Last year was the first time I was able to commit to this and only offered my 'Friday Flowers' bunches during the flowering season in the UK. Not only did it mean I could support British flower farms and independent growers, it meant I was moving more towards the sustainability promise that I want Studio Poppy to be able to deliver. Being more aware of the impact of the flower industry on the environment, I'm trying to introduce elements of the business that will align more with sustainable practice and values (you can read more about this pledge in the Sustainability tab on the main menu)
Last year I loved visiting flower farms to get the flowers freshly cut for my bunches (mainly Danielle at Beans & Blooms based in Horndon-on-the-Hill in Essex) - the flowers were cut and put into buckets of water with not a plastic wrap or air mile in sight. My hope for 2025 is to be able to source my flowers for all weekly bunches and events from a variety of British growers from all over the UK.
